MADD is amazing I cannot express how much I love what they do, they really do care. The biggest goal they have and may take a few years to accomplish, is to Eliminate Drunk Driving which I believe will happen one day. This is a battle and challenge that they are fighting and still going to fight. The organization is the nations largest non-profit which is saying something, people are willing to help and continue to help and make a difference. MADD always seeks volunteers, they would love to hear everyone's story, but at the same time you have to realize some people may not like talking about what happen to them or their family members or even friends. Talking about something that is so personal can be a challenge, but for me I love talking about what happen to my sister, I do not want people to forget that there was a Drunk Driving Car Crash in Burbank, and I will do my best to bring to the newspapers and TV every year no matter how long its been.
I would say one thing MADD really does need to consider is emailing schools first instead waiting for them to email you. Because if a professor gets an email from a person who works for MADD, they most definitely would set up a day where they can come in and speak. If I were in charge of a similar organization I would personally go to schools myself and tell them I want to speak which is what I do now, but I do feel that all their staff throughout the nation should be doing that. Sometimes schools may not know your available and they should not wait for them to contact you, MADD should contact them. The more schools you go to the more people start learning what MADD does and the more people you touch and the more people that are willing to help. Its a win win. Here is a picture of a class I spoke to and I just want to say I really touched all these students.
Good cause......its would be nice to see an advocate that is unbiased though. Why is it that people have to be hurt by something before they do anything about it?
ReplyDeleteI always love hearing about how people love what they do and the company they represent. I think you're sending a very powerful message. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to respectfully disagree with Mike's comment. I think that you took the tragedy that struck your family and decided to work for a positive change. It makes your story and when you advocate touch those who listen in a deeper way. It gives you a different perspective from those who advocate without being affected, I'm not saying it's better or worse one way or another but I think it's wonderful you decided to deal with this in a positive manner and fight for that change in the world that you want to see. Keep going, you're doing amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think that there are organizations out there that are working to prevent underage drinking and they all do so by different means. As far as MADD goes, I feel they are able to utilize those who have been affected to present a stronger opinion. It is easy to be unbiased and talk about topic but when you have been affected by it, you are biased. I do not feel that is a bad thing to be biased in some cases. I would rather hear what someone has to say that has had an experience with the topic at hand versus someone who just has an opinion of it. Keep up the good work and who know, maybe you can be the change within the organization to start reaching out to the schools to ensure everyone has an opportunity to be presented with your message!
