Don't Drink and Drive

Drinking and Driving has been a big problem in the United States. I feel that we need to eliminate Drunk Driving for good. People do it all the time and they say in general if you do it once, you are more likely to do it again and that's the sad part. People don't have to drink and drive why they do it, you don't know what goes through that person's mind at the moment right before they get in the car. I feel that drivers who drive drunk are doing that because they have to get home for a reason maybe I have work in the morning. One shot, one beer, one cup of wine can change your perception of driving, you are 50% more likely to get in a car crash with one drink. Driving Drunk is a serious matter when I speak about the subject I put all my effort into, because well my sister was killed by a drunk driver, so I have to change people's lives when I speak. I will never understand why people drive drunk, but I do certainly understand why people drink they want to have a good time and have fun. I want to more effort into the campaign of "Eliminating Drunk Driving" you know how special how lets in five years Drunk Driving has significantly decreased that would be a remarkable day and I hope to make this happen.
Along with trying to eliminate Drunk Driving I would also love to start a scholarship program under my sisters name which does require a lot of effort and time which I am willing to put. I would call it the "MALAK HARIRI SCHOLARSHIP". I just want to do many things for my sister trying to keep her name and legacy alive is one thing I am willing to fight for and I don't want people to forget about my sister. I want to start programs and keep speaking about this Drunk Driving car crash, it was the biggest so you cannot forget the biggest. I talk about it because I want to people to feel my pain and hear my story and know that this should never happen to them, I want everyone to make it home safe and remember its one phone call away that can save your life. There is someone out there who will pick you up. Don't Drink and Drive

  1. Mohammad, this was a very touching post. As a former military police officer, I have to agree with you. Drink driving is one of the most reckless things to do. I think that you should make this scholarship program. I do not know the feeling of losing a sibling, but I do know the feeling of losing someone that you love. Maybe you could put a program together to stop people from drunk driving, and also put a program together to help the offenders as well. I'm not sure if the offenders have adequate programs to prevent them from doing this again (besides the alcohol vehicle devices). Maybe you could start a program to help the offenders reach out to others as well. I wish you the best of luck with your outreach program and scholarship fund. Your sister was a beautiful woman, and you bring her life back to the world.

  2. Yes I am going to do my best, it might not be this year, but I will work harder to make all this happen. Putting programs together will be a tough task, but I will find a way.

  3. Hi, Mohamed
This is very touching incident story of your lost sister, I real feel the pain you are going through brother and my heart goes to you. I support your vision to create scholarship on the name of your beloved lost sister, please take the courage forward and do it. We all can learn from it. I'm total against drink and drive, because this is a wrongful habit which does not worth it anything but it brings disaster in our community for no reasons at all. If I have solo power to deal with such destructive behavior in the society, I would impose severe punishment on drunk drivers by charging them more to pay or face a good jail time. I hoping to work for traffic police when I get back to Africa, because this case is common there and nobody seems to be serious about the loses being cost by these drunk drivers on the roads.
    Take-care brother.

  4. Yes Thanks man, it is tough people don't realize that drinking and driving is a serious matter, most people do it because they don't think it will happen to them. Which is why a lot of people drink and drive. When will they learn. I want to say this Losing a sister is painful beyond description; losing a sister to a Drunk Driver is doubly painful because the loss is TOTALLY AVOIDABLE. I will keep pushing to eliminate Drunk Driving and I will be the one who eliminates drunk driving.

  6. Mohamed, I am sorry for your loss. I remember a time when the laws were weak, and drunk drivers had no consequences for their actions. MADD changed that, and now at least people are being prosecuted for killing someone with car while being drunk. Awareness about this issue is so important! Thank you for being a spokes person for this cause.
